I am a mom of two lovely kids: one is 1.5 years old and the other is 4.5 years. No matter how precise the difference is but the struggle is real to handle two kids in a nuclear family set-up, especially when a kid gets ill. Health problems like Fever, Cough, Cold and Diarrhea in babies are very common and must be cured at the right time before they become severe.
With the right piece of advice and medication, any health issue can be resolved with ease.
Symptoms of diarrhea in babies
According to Wikipedia, “Diarrhea is the condition of having at least three loose, liquid, or watery bowel movements each day. It often lasts for a few days and can result in dehydration due to fluid loss.”
Some of its common symptoms in babies are the following:
- Fever of 102 degrees or higher
- Belly pain
- Sluggishness
- Loss of control of bowel movements
Teething and diarrhea relation
The main reason why babies suffer from frequent and loose motions during teething is that they put every other thing in their mouth. Due to this, they have higher chances of catching an infection. Reports suggest that teething doesn’t directly cause diarrhea in children (find the reference article below).
Managing diarrhea in babies
When both my girls, suffer from Diarrhoea, the one solution that their doctors prescribe is “Enterogermina”. It is a probiotic and is Paediatrician’s No.1 choice. When my elder one was just 5 months old and she had been suffering from frequent and watery stools, I gave her Enterogermina twice a day. Enterogermina is very handy and safe to give to children during Diarrhoea. I have been giving it to my daughters for almost 5 years now.
Diet of a breastfeeding mother during diarrhea in babies
Let me share my personal example to make you understand this effectively. My elder daughter’s a premature baby and her digestive system was not that strong initially. I had banned spicy food and eating out regularly for 2-3 months strictly, for the fear of her catching tummy troubles. When I started eating out or would take something really spicy in my meal, she would pass loose stools. That’s true! A breastfeeding mother’s diet affects her baby, especially when the baby’s digestive system is not fully matured and developed.
So a mother who is breastfeeding her kid should also adjust her diet and avoid taking foods which might trigger the condition of a baby. The kids should also not be given such foods and their dairy and sweet products consumption should also be reduced.
Quick tips to treat Diarrhoea in babies
There can be various causes for diarrhea in babies and, it’s really important to visit your doctor if you see no improvement even after 48 hours. Some of the remedies that I have used for my kids are mentioned below:
- You can’t stop your child from playing and messing around; all you can do is make their surroundings clean.
- Give them enough fluids, which help in compensating the water loss from the body.
- Give them a diet that helps in binding the stools like Zinc, Boiled water, Fresh juice, Breast milk
- Give them Probiotics like Enterogermina which helps manage diarrhea. I have been giving it to my daughters for the past 5 years. Safe and trusted by doctors.
